Pampling T27 at Pebble Beach


Rod Pampling's four round total of 7-under par has put him in a tie for 27th place at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am. The tournament was played over 3 of California's greatest seaside courses being Pebble Beach, Monterey Peninsula and Spyglass Hill. Pampling collected just over USD$41,000 and 40.5 FedEx Cup points.

Senior T11 in first Champions Tour Start

Peter Senior has opened his Champions Tour season with three consecutive rounds of 1-under par 71 at The ACE Group Classic to finish in a tie for 11th place with former major winners Tom Kite, Larry Mize and Nick Price. The tournament was won by former PGA Tour star Fred Couples who has also just joined the Champions Tour in 2010.

Marc Ong secures Victory for SGA


The youngest member of the SGA Team, Marc Ong claimed the 1/2 point needed to secure the win for Singapore against Malaysia in the SGA vs MGA Annual Match. Marc might have been the youngest and least experienced player in this years competition but that didn't stop him going through the series undefeated.

Both teams started the Singles Matches with 6 points each after the Fourball and Foursomes. The SGA took an early lead when its players won their first five matches. In Match 1, Stephanie Loi beat Joanne Lagan 7 and 6; Match 2, Joey Poh beat Sharon Lau 6 and 4; Match 3, Kok Jo Ee beat Ainil Johani 5 and 3; Match 4, Koh Sock Hwee beat Vivienne Chin 4 and 2 and in Match 5, Johnson Poh beat Chan Tuck Soon 1 up. This gave SGA an overwhelming 11 points.

MGA took the next 2 points in Matches 6 and 7 when Abel Tam beat Gregory Foo 3 and 1 and Mohd Iylia Jamil beat Jerome Ng 4 and 3 to bring their tally to 8 points.

Jonathan Woo gave SGA another point in Match 10 when he beat Kenneth De Silva 3 and 2 whilst MGA took a point in Match 9 when Asman Basharuddin beat Kenji Cheung 2 and 1.

The 1/2 point needed to successfully retain the trophy then came in Match 8 when Singapore Sports School student Marc Ong squared with Jeremiah Kim giving SGA the 12 1/2 points needed for victory.

MGA secured 1 point in Match 11 when Gavin Green beat George Foo 1 up. SGA's additional 1/2 point came from Match 12 when Lam Zhiqun squared with Iszaimi Ismail.

Quek off to a Flying Start in Thailand


Quincy Quek has launched his 2010 Asian Tour season with a 3-under par 69 to be just one shot off the lead at the US$300,000 Asian Tour International held at Suwan Golf and Country Club, Thailand.

Quincy posted 5 birdies against 2 bogeys in a good display of ball-striking and putting to be in a tie for 4th place with fellow Singaporean and former Academy student, Lam Chih Bing. Scott Barr shot an even par score of 72 to be a further 3 shots back of the leading International trio comprising American Jason Knutzon, Brazilian Lucas Lee and former World Junior Champion Kiradech Aphibarnrat of Thailand.

Top 10 for Edgar in China Junior Open

Singapore's Edgar Oh has finished in 7th place at the HSBC China Junior Golf Open. The tournament was held at the newly constructed Hainan Meilan Golf Club and attracted a very strong International field of junior golfers.

14yr old Edgar was even par after two solid opening rounds of 73 and 71 and earned himself a spot in the championship group for the final days play. Playing in difficult windy conditions with two of China's top ranked junior golfers, and with an entourage of media following their group, Edgar recorded a respectable score of 75 to take 7th position in this prestigous junior tournament.

Unfortunately after returning from his China trip, Edgar sustained a serious injury to his left arm and will be sidelined from competitive golf for the next few months. The Academy wishes Edgar a speedy recovery!
